Mati Simcox: Shimmering

New artist and rising star Mati Simcox unintentionally started her career ahead of schedule on November 26, 2023. She had originally planned and promoted her debut song ‘Shimmering’ to be released on December 1 however she had inadvertently published her song on all streaming platforms a few days too early. Even though it didn't go according to plan, her song has done well so far. At the moment 'Shimmering’ has been played on the BBC Radio Cymru show Cerddoriaeth newydd Cymru with Mirain Iwerydd as well as BBC Radio Cymru 2s Caneuon Cymraeg Newydd show with Lisa Gwilym.

Simcox is a young bilingual artist from North Wales who strives to get her music out to the world and make music people will enjoy. With the experience and skills she gained while studying music, she was able to create the song we’ve come to love. ‘Shimmering’ is a bit upbeat which fits the genre however the lyrics aren’t so positive. It focuses on the topic of self-esteem, specifically the poor self-esteem of the young artist herself. While looking at the lyrics of the song it gives a good indication as to what the artist's real thoughts are about herself. An example of this is the line “It’s stupid I’m so confident but I’m still insecure” which is trying to tell us as the listener that she is constantly putting on a mask of persistence and bravery. There are many other lines in the song which have similar meanings. Even with all of that going on behind the scenes, our dear artist is making her way in the music industry and all we can do is support her.
